Student Visa (Subclass 500)
The student visa is a temporary visa that allows international students to study in Australia at a recognized educational institution.
The applicant must be enrolled in a full-time course at a registered Australian education provider (such as a university, vocational school, or English language institution). The course must be registered on the CRICOS (Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students). The applicant must have a valid Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) for the course they intend to study.
The applicant must also meet genuine student criteria, English, health and character requirements, and may need to provide proof of financial capacity to support themselves during their stay.
Temporary Graduate (Subclass 485)
This is a temporary visa that allows international students to live, study and work after they have finished their studies. The 485 visa has three streams:
- Post-Vocational Education Work Stream: for international students who have recently graduated with qualifications that are relevant to specific occupations Australia needs (associate degree, diploma or trade qualifications).
- Post-Higher Education Work Stream: for international students who have recently graduated with a degree or higher qualification from an Australian institution.
- Second Post-Higher Education Work Stream: for Temporary Graduates holding a Post-Higher Education Work, Post-Study Work or Replacement visa with a degree from an Australian institution located in a regional area.
